AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY FLIGHT CLEARANCE

The National Survey Authority is responsible for issuing clearances for ministries, government organisations and their contractors to undertake aerial photography, aerial video filming and aerial handheld photography from aircraft or helicopters. The request for clearance is to be submitted to the Head of National Survey Authority allowing at least five working days to process the approval. A charge of RO: 400/- for each clearance for mapping or commercial purpose is to be paid in advance by cash, cheque or Local Purchase Order (LPO). Please note that reduced charges of R.O. 250/- per clearance is applicable for covering events and occasions.

After obtaining the no objection letters from the above organisations, the aircraft operator is to submit his request for an air operator's permit, enclosing the no objection letters, to:-

The following information must be provided when applying for the aerial photography clearance or air operator's permit:-

1. Aircraft Type
2. Registration No.
3. Radio Call Sign
4. Flying Period
5. Aircraft Crew (include pilots and navigators)
6. Flying Height
7. Scale of Photography
8. Photographer
9. A letter from the sponsoring ministry or government organisation

In certain circumstances, there will be a requirement for the National Survey Authority to deploy a security observer during the aerial survey flights and/or the film processing and printing stages.  The charges for security observers will be as follows:-

a. Flights on week days

          For Mapping / Commercial Purposes

   (i) RO: 50.000 per working day (7.30 am to 2.00 pm)

   (ii) RO: 100.000 for full day (from 7.30 am to beyond 2.00 pm)

 

For Events / Occasions

 

   (i) RO: 8.000 per hour (7.30 am to 2.00 pm)

   (ii) RO: 16.000 per hour (beyond 2.00 pm)

b. Flights during weekends and Public Holidays

          For Mapping / Commercial Purposes

   (i) RO: 100.000 (7.30 am to 2.00 pm)

   (ii) RO: 200.000 (from 7.30 am to beyond 2.00 pm)

 

For Events / Occasions

 

   (i) RO: 16.000 per hour
